Just days after thousands of workers at Plant 3 of the Dongguan Yue Yuen shoe factory went on strike, protest over the housing fund has expanded to the EMS Business Group of Global Brands Manufacture (GBM) Technology Group in the Yue Yuen Gaoxin Industrial Park in Donghuang Township. GBM is a Yue Yuen-invested company.
The GBM strike involved about 500 workers and occurred from March 19-20. Like the Yue Yuen shoe worker strike early this week, GBM workers were disatisfied with a recent change to Dongguan housing fund regulations and are demanding unpaid housing fund contributions from GBM. In response, hundreds of Dongguan police officers were dispatched to the scene.
